Tournament Review: Feast of Blades Qualifier, Showcase Comics 8.12

Hey all Son of Adam here with another Tournament Review.  This weekend Vanguard and I went to a Feast of Blades qualifier at Showcase Comics in Media PA.  For those of you who don’t know about Feast of Blades here is a link to their site.

This was a qualifying round for Feast of Blades and we were all playing for a chance to play in Denver this October.  Feast of Blades is a 2k, non-mysterious object/terrain, non-warlord, non-double org tournament.  Your score is based on a painting , sportsmanship , and a battle point system including primary and secondary objectives, with battle point modifiers.

This will be a quick recap again.  (Sorry I will be very hard pressed to get much done this week).  This tournament I took my eldar again –see earlier tournament reviews for its contents-, as I am trying to get some more reps in before NOVA.  I added a squad of kabalite warriors this time for allies just to try them out.

In my first match I played a nice fella named Joel and his Tyranids.  Joel was newer to 6th ed and wasn’t able to play with his primary army because it wasn’t fully painted.  His nids however were very nicely done.  His army had a flying tyrant, a harpe, two tervigons, some zoans, some devilguants, and some hive guard.

This match was Primary: Kill Points, Secondary: Table Quarters with a vanguard deployment.  I castled up in the corner and covered up with the council.  Joel lined up everything as far forward as he could.  I then isolated his fliers and removed them.  After his fliers were down I was able to piecemeal the rest as it was all on foot and struggled to engage me at the same time.  I ended up with a win in this first match.

For the second game I plated against Matt from Stomping Grounds with his drop pod Space Wolves (actually did a battle report with this same army not too long ago).  This mission was P: Quarters, S: Objectives with a Dawn of War deployment.  This was a very close match.  I failed a lot of saves early and the game only ended up going 5 turns.  For this match I again tried to castle while infiltrating my snipers some.  He lined his zone with long fangs and dropped everything right on top of my lines.  If the game had gone on Matt would have been in a very good position to take it from me.  However, in the end I was able to claim more table quarters and objectives to win the game.

The last match I played against a fairly similar list.  Walter brought Dark Eldar with Eldar allies.  He included three fliers, harliquins, an autarch, some scorges, the baron w/ hellions, some trueblood venoms, and two squads of pathfinders.  The mission was P: Objectives, S: Kill Points with a vanguard deployment.

This was a tricky match.  I had no answer to his fliers and they did tons of damage.  In this match I spread out my deployment and he reserved a good portion of his force.  Walter was winning the battle of attrition in the first few turns.  However with the turn of the battle, I ended up being able to weather the fire from his two fast squads as they alpha’d in from reserve, and take them out in my subsequent turn.   After that he still made a very solid effort and almost took the win from me, but I was able to hold on to enough objectives to take the game.

All in all, it was a good event (catered by Chick-fil-a).  A friend of mine (“That Guy” from the battle reports) ended up getting second next to me by one point.  It was a good day to mess around with a different rules/scoring set as per Feast of Blades guidelines, and helped get some practice games in just before the start of NOVA.

Thanks all for reading.  Sorry that this is so rushed, but I felt the need to get it out before I head down to VA.  Be sure to check out some of our other stuff and watch some of our batreps.

-Peace

Battle Report Teaser: Eldar vs Space Wolves with Grey Knight Allies

Hey all, themightysquig here bringing you another Battle Report Teaser. This week, Son of Adam went head-to-head with Matt, owner of Stomping Grounds. Matt brought a Space Wolves drop pod army with Grey Knight allies to square up against SoA’s Eldar list.

It was a close game, as drop pods can cause a lot of trouble for SoA’s Eldar. Does SoA overcome his list disadvantage? Does Matt give SoA his first loss since the launch of this blog? I’m not going to tell you (haha, take that, internets!). Instead check out these pictures from the game and make sure you check out the Battle Report and Strategy Follow-up for this game as they get posted.

Snipers hide behind the aegis defense line

Long Fangs deploy in a ruin in order to get clear line of sight on the battlefield.

Long fangs rain down fire support all game almost untouched.

The fire dragon exarch manages to survive combat for a round.

Grey Knights lend fire support that is boosted with prescience.

One council member stands out in between the ruins.

Grey Hunters get inside the aegis and prepare to cut down the snipers in combat.

The council tries to multi-charge the drop pods for some extra kill points.

Battle Report: Grey Knights vs Space Wolves (2k)

Hey guys.  Check out this video.  I brought my Grey Knight army with all of the new different groups that I talked about in my Road to Nova Intro post against Steve’s Thunder Cav Space Wolves army.  We played one of the NOVA primer missions.  This is our first video so let us know what you think.  We are always trying to improve.  Remember to subscribe and like our stuff.

By the way, we missed some of the video in the middle, but tried to make up for it with pictures.  Don’t worry we won’t be doing it that way next time (unless you guys like it that way).  If there are any armies that you would like to see played against/with let us know and we will try to get a vid up for it.  Thanks guys.

Hey all, themightysquig here showing off some more really well painted models.  This army showcase is of our buddy Steve’s custom Space Wolves army.  He custom made these guys to be chaos space wolves and I think they turned out great.  I grabbed a few shots of this army in action, but I wanted to get a few posed shots so we could get a better look at them. Enjoy!

Thunderwolf Lord with wolves.

This guy looks boss and tanked it for his squad in the game.

Battle Report Teaser: Grey Knights vs Space Wolves

Hey all, themightysquig here for MasterCraft Gaming, bringing you our first ever Battle Report Teaser! You’ll have to wait a few days for the official Bat Rep video for all the details you’re looking for, but until then, here’s what I can tell you. Last night Son of Adam played his buddy Steve at Stomping Grounds in Warminster, PA.  He brought along his Grey Knight army to take on Steve’s Space Wolves. And I brought my camera to take all these cool pictures of the battle!

Long Fangs take position in a ruin.

Vindicator comes around the corner with some support to get a shot at the land raider

Moving into the high ground the purifiers open fire.

Undaunted, the sole remaining purifier holds his ground.

The thunderwolf Lord leads a bloody charge against the dreadknight and the paladins.

Long fangs are ambushed by a dreadknight.

The Grey Hunters make a heroic counter charge.

Draigo leads what is left of his men against the Space wolves force.

One squad of grey hunters in a rhino makes an end game dash towards an objective.

Purifiers ride out to meet the endemy.

Terminators use Shadow Skies to drop from a Storm Raven that flies by.

A dreadknight scales a building while hunting his foes.

Grey Hunters charge what is left of the purifiers.

While holding onto the objective a squad of grey hunters provides some supporting fire.

Special thanks to Stomping Grounds for providing a great place to play.

The Grey Knight vehicles, Dreadknight, and Draigo were painted byPaul over at For Holy Terra.  Our very own Vanguard painted up the purifiers.

Let us know what you think.  Thanks.
